Club website speaks to League Two's Player of the Month for April
Josh Morris has described last month as a ‘really memorable’ one after capping off April by being named as the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month.
The 22-year-old Blackburn Rovers loanee scored his first professional goal – and the winner – at Cheltenham Town on Good Friday, before following up that effort with another winner as ten man Fleetwood Town overcome Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 four days later.
His goals and tireless displays in midfield have helped the Cod Army cement their fourth place position, and with it, a play-off berth.
Speaking about winning the award, Morris told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to be honest. It’s been a good month, I have managed to get amongst the score sheet, it has been really memorable.
“I have waited for the first one (first professional goal) for a long time and then two came in the second week. It was a great week and we got some great results on the back of it.”
Morris’ goals over the month were a personal highlight – the first, a cleanly struck volley at Cheltenham and the second, a well-placed shot from outside the area – but which was his favourite?
“I think the first one stands out, I took it well. I had a good touch in the box and a nice finish. The second one was a nice one because of the distance, but the first one just pips it.”
Graham Alexander’s side were unbeaten throughout the whole of April and Morris also paid tribute to the work ethic and performances that his team-mates also produced.
“We have worked really hard over the Easter period and over the course of the month.
“We have done really well as a team, that’s the most important thing. The personal accolade is a nice thing, but the team performances go above that.”
Town are set to face league leaders Chesterfield tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon in the final regular league game of the season and Morris insists Fleetwood are going to the Proact Stadium to make a statement.
“It’s going to be a tough game, but we are going to go there and prove a point, put the statement out there and carry on the run that we have been on.”
