Keeper extends his stay at Highbury until the summer of 2016

Fleetwood Town are delighted to confirm that Chris Maxwell has put pen to paper on a new two-year-deal at Highbury.

The former Welsh U21 international kept 11 clean sheets in 22 appearances for the Cod Army last season after a successful loan spell at Cambridge United.

Three of those clean sheets came against York City and Burton Albion respectively in the League Two Play-Offs as Town sealed promotion to the third tier of English football.

Now focused on League One, Maxwell told Fleetwood Town’s official club website that he can’t wait to get back to pre-season training next month and tackle the new season.

“It was such a relief to get it sorted,” admitted the former Wrexham shot stopper. “I can look forward to the last couple of weeks of summer and really prepare for next season.

"When I'm off I can't sit still. I can't wait now to get back with the lads.

"I always wanted to stay. I went on holiday literally the day after the season finished and since then I've been with family and stuff so it's only in the last few days I've been able to get myself sorted.

"The gaffer, the chairman and the club have been very good to me.

"I'm glad it's all sorted and there's nothing to worry about other than being in the best possible shape I can be when we come back in July."

In 2013/14, Graham Alexander’s men overcame a handful of League One sides in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, and Maxwell is more than confident Fleetwood are ready to step up to the next level.

He continued: “I don't think it's anything the team can't cope with. You saw it last season in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

"The teams we were beating and the levels they were showing was nothing different to what we'll expect in League One.

"It's been a rollercoaster couple of years. You look back at Wrexham last year, with a couple of Wembley appearances and Cambridge at the start of last season.

"Then there was a fantastic six months here. I'm hoping it's going to continue and hoping for good things to come."

Chris Maxwell is now available to sponsor ahead of the 2014/15 season. Interested in sponsoring the goalkeeper who had 30 clean sheets overall last season? Please call Martin Booker on 07854 846820 now.
