Young Cod Army fell to defeat at Rochdale

Mark Bowley was left bitterly disappointed with the performance of Town’s youth team against Rochdale yesterday afternoon.

The Young Cod Army fell to a 2-0 defeat to Dale at Radcliffe Borough, and Bowley was frustrated with the players’ effort.

Town host Blackpool at home on Saturday morning and Bowley admits he’s hoping for a response against the Tangerines.

He said: “I was very disappointed yesterday after a great performance against Preston North End last Saturday morning.

“The boys let their standards drop and it was very disappointing right away through the squad.

“I was delighted to see 15 year old Owen Bridge come on and perform well again, but other than that there weren’t really many bright sparks.

“You can understand that the boys will make mistakes but I can never have a lad who doesn’t give me 100% effort. I felt yesterday that not every player was giving us that.

“We sat down with the boys though and spoke about it at length after the game and put our points of view across.

“We’ve got a massive game on Saturday against Blackpool and what better game for us to turn our season around.

“We seem to be taking one step forward and one step back at the moment which is a shame really because they put so much effort into the weekend’s game against Preston.

“The result yesterday wasn’t important as it was the performance that mattered, but it was very disappointing.”
