Manager hails his side after a fine performance against Doncaster

Graham Alexander dedicated this afternoon’s win to his players and stated that it was one of Town’s best performances of the season.

The win maintains Fleetwood’s unbeaten home start to life in League One, and lifts them up to eighth in the table, only a point behind Notts County who occupy that last play-off place.

Stephen Dobbie netted his fourth goal in Town colours early on with a close range finish before former Cod Army striker Nathan Tyson equalised.

Liam McAlinden scored his second goal in as many games since joining on-loan from Wolves just before the break, and David Ball made sure of all three points in the latter stages.

Speaking after the game, Alexander said: “The players were exceptional today and we got the goals which our play deserved. We had that cutting edge and could have scored a couple more.

“Doncaster are a very good team and we had to make sure we dealt with their threats, and I thought we did that in large parts.

“Their deflected goal was a bit of a punch in the stomach but the players responded really well and played some good stuff.

“We know of Stephen’s qualities and it’s just about getting him in goalscoring areas which will hurt the opposition. Along with Liam and Bally, our strikers did ever so well today and stretched Doncaster.

“I thought Liam ran the defence well and got in behind and held the ball up well. It was a timely goal for us as we deserved to be ahead at the break.

“In the second half we had to make sure we did the right things defensively and restrict them to as little opportunities as possible.

“The play for our third goal was superb, and Bally has got the goal he so thoroughly deserves.

“The players deserve this win because they haven’t stopped believing in the things we do on the training pitch, and have never let their heads get down.”
