Fleetwood Town’s Louis Myers hopes he can build on from claiming the Youth Team Player of the Year award and break into the development squad next season.

Myers, who will be entering the second year of his scholarship next season, has played a pivotal role in the youth team set up this season, including the Cod Army’s FA Youth Cup adventure which resulted in a clash against Premier League outfit Sunderland late last year.

The youngster was on the score sheet when Fleetwood beat Yorkshire giants Sheffield United at Highbury in a famous 3-1 victory in the second round of the cup.

Speaking to the Club website at the award ceremony on Saturday evening, he said: “The award means a lot to me. I will be heading into the second year of my scholarship next season so I still have plenty to show. It is a huge honour.

"I want to push on from this now. Unfortunately I am out injured at the moment but hopefully I will come back a lot stronger and look to push into Barry Nicholson’s development squad.

"Fleetwood have proven they are given youth an opportunity. The likes of Nick Haughton, Ash Hunter and Tyler Forbes have all made their first team debuts this season.

"They are all good friends of mine and they have told me how good of a feeling it is to represent the first team. I am proud of them all.”

Earlier that day, Fleetwood Town’s U17s overcame Rochdale in a friendly match 2-0, with the goals coming from Gerrard Garner and Jordan Hancox
