Gaffer speaks about the match and Cod Army support

Graham Alexander believes there were a number of positives to take from this afternoon’s display against Kilmarnock.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd gave Killie the perfect start after three minutes, but Amari’i Bell deservedly pulled Town level midway through the first half.

Boyd scored his second of the contest with a neat finish from a tight angle in the second half, before Chris Johnston rounded off proceedings with a third for the SPL side late on.

Alexander said: “There were loads of positives to take if you look beyond the result. I was impressed with the way we played and the chances we created.

“We had a lot of real clear cut chances from our interplay. The disappointing aspect of it is that we conceded three sloppy goals.

“We’ve got a players who are really up to speed and are doing excellent, and we’ve got a couple who are not up to speed.

“We’ve got a strong squad but I felt today in certain instances just at the vital moment we let ourselves down a bit.

“I thought in general that’s the best we’ve played for quite a while. It was definitely the game where we created the most chances.

“I know the goals will come because I can see the work ethic of the players, and they’re getting into great positions."

The Cod Army travelled in their numbers to Scotland, with over a 100 supporters making the 400 mile round trip to Rugby Park.

“We met a few of the supporters before the game with a few fans coming down from Aberdeen to watch us and so forth.

“It’s fantastic to see because the Club lives on its supporters, and we hope they were happy with the performance and not the result.

“The time for winning games is when the season starts proper, but I’m sure they can see from the performance levels that the players have got a lot of ability.”
