Reaction from the boss after last home match of the season
Fleetwood Town manager Graham Alexander struggled to hide his disappointment following Town’s 3-2 home defeat to Colchester United to end the Club’s home campaign.However, Alexander was optimistic and buoyant ahead of next weekend’s game with Port Vale, hoping the team can end on a high following a successful first season in the third tier.
Speaking to the Club’s media team following the late defeat to Colchester he said:
“First half we didn’t pass the ball well enough and kept turning the ball over.
“Half-time we spoke to the boys about what to do but obviously the goal straight after half-time put us on the back foot, poor goal to concede from our perspective from where the lad has got the ball to start with.
“We make the substitutions and play a bit more aggressively, score to very good goals and from there we should win the game.”
He added: “ At 2-1 we have enough in the team at that point to see the game out.”
Looking ahead to Sunday’s trip to Vale Park the manager is hoping Town give the season a fitting finale having established themselves in League One.
“We have spoken about next week already. We’ve said that it hurts, talking about defeat today, I can’t hide it.
“I didn’t hide it but there’s a positive overall feel for the season and there is still a game to go where we can finish on a high and get that smile back on our faces as well as everyone else’s.
Finishing on: “This group of players don't deserve to end the season in a negative way.
“They’ve been too good over the last nine months to let that happen so we’ll train properly all this week to make sure we’re prepared for next Sunday as best as possible and get a positive result.
“I’m proud of what they’ve done this season because they have done a fantastic job for this Club and established themselves as a competitive League One club.”
