Attitude and professionalism levels must be the same insists boss
Graham Alexander wants his side to approach the final three games of the season in a positive manner, starting with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday afternoon.Town’s defeat at home to MK Dons on Tuesday evening all but ended their Play-Off hopes, however Alexander has been happy with the Cod Army’s first season at this level.
He admits they still have a lot to play for though, and is demanding that his squad approach the final games with the same level of attitude and professionalism.
Alexander’s men play host to Colchester United after their visit to the Keepmoat this weekend, before bringing a close to campaign away at Port Vale.
Ahead of the Donny game, he said: “Whenever you cross the white line you have to give it your best shot, and that’s what me, my staff and players will be doing for our final three games.
“You’ve got a responsibility as a professional to play for your wages, the supporters and your teammates, so I think it’s important we go into these games with a strong mind set.
“I want to finish what has been a good season for us on a high, so everyone goes into the summer with a positive feeling about the place.
“We’re going to prepare for these games in the same way that we always do, and are going to take them as seriously as any other games we’ve had this season.
“In every walk of life you want to improve and push yourself and show people that you’re good at your job, and these last three games are no different.
“We spoke to the players straight after the game against MK Dons and spoke about the last three games and going into them.
“We have to be as positive as possible and make sure we take as many points as we can.
“I feel the players have done superbly this season. We’ve obviously had our setbacks over the course of the last nine months but have responded well with great results.
“We’ve established ourselves as a good League One team, but it takes longer than one season to do that so we have to make sure we continue our progress.
“We want to finish in a position where we can look back and say we had a good first season at this level, and we’d have taken eighth back in August.
“If we take our foot of the gas and drop then other clubs can overtake us, and that’s something we don’t want to happen.”
