Another head-to-head, this time with Southport, was shrouded in controversy and bitterness as the league reacted to the folding of Farsley Celtic in 2010.
Town chased Witton Albion relentlessly to win the Northern Premier League Premier Division in 2008, overhauling a substantial lead.
Fleetwood re-joined the Northern Premier League for the first time in ten years. A second successive promotion came immediately and the book deals in detail with a dramatic final day when Town pipped Kendal Town to promotion in sensational style by turning round a seemingly insurmountable goal difference after a thrilling victory over Brigg Town.
Enter local businessman Andy Pilley. Pilley immediately made clear his ambition and the Club gained its first promotion under him in 2004/05 after a season-long tussle with Newcastle Town.
It was North West Counties football at the time with a small but loyal group of supporters. A high-profile friendly against Liverpool kick-started the following season but problems were to mount a few months later with the Club's promotion aspirations knocked back and the departure of chairman Mick Hoyle.
The 2002/03 season was notable for the appointment of a new manager, Tony Greenwood, and the arrival of an inexperienced 18 year-old, Nathan Pond.
