Youth team boss full of praise for players after today's win

Fleetwood Town youth team manager Nathan Rooney was delighted at his team’s performance as they recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Carlisle United on Saturday morning.

Strikes either side of the interval from Mamadou Djabi and Michael Tetteh helped the Cod Army on their way to a first win of 2016.

After the game had reached a conclusion at Lytham Cricket Club, Rooney shared his views on the win in an interview with the Club’s official website.

He said: “I’m over the moon with the lads today. The momentum from the first half was carried on and the players performed excellently as individuals.

“The two goals were two team goals which makes me happier, but overall we have looked after the long and direct play from Carlisle."

Rooney praised the contribution of goalscorers Mamadou Djabi and Michael Tetteh, and paid tribute to the way the team applied themselves to create both openings.

“Mamadou got himself played in one on one, and he’s done really well to show composure at the correct time.

“Michael's was a team goal as we’ve shown combinations throughout the pitch, and dominated the ball in possession."

Rooney continued: “The surface was tough to play on but you still have to encourage a passing game, and sometimes it goes against you when chances aren’t taken.

“Furthermore, I felt that the ball was moving in the right channels and it allowed us to create more chances than the opposition which is one of our key messages throughout training.

“The best part about the whole game was that the lads applied themselves not just in possession but out of it too."
