We get to know the La Liga outfit a bit better...

A bit of a different type of opposition await Fleetwood Town FC this Friday evening.

La Liga side Getafe, from Spain, will visit Fleetwood for the very first time in what will be the Cod Army’s final pre-season friendly.

Last season Getafe finished in 15th place of the La Liga, just avoiding relegation in the last round of the campaign, and will be hoping to improve on their results in the upcoming 2015/16 season.

Getafe Club de Fútbol was officially founded in 1983 as a merger of the two clubs Club Getafe Deportivo and Peña Madridista Getafe. Peña Madridista was a club formed by Real Madrid supporters in Getafe.

In four consecutive seasons Getafe was promoted as they reached the Segunda División B in 1987/88, before taking the next step up to the 2nd tier in 1994/95, staying only two years.

In 2001/02 they won promotion to the second division once again and following a fantastic season in 2003/04, they won promotion to the La Liga. With this promotion, Getafe had ascended the whole Spanish football pyramid in only twenty years.

Los Azulones (The Deep Blues) managed to reach the final of the Copa del Rey for two consecutive seasons in 2006/07 and 2007/08, but were beaten by Sevilla FC and Valencia CF respectively.

Even though they lost both finals they went on to be qualified for the UEFA Cup having a impressing run in the 2007/08 season, where they moved on from the group stage and were later defeated by Bayern Munich in the quarter-final on away goals.

Getafe plays their home matches at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez which has a capacity of 17.393, and is located in the outskirts of Madrid.

The ground was opened in 1998 and is named in honour of the former spanish international Alfonso Pérez Muñoz, who were born in Getafe.

Last season the Getafe went through three different managers, with Quique Sanchez Flores sitting in the seat for only seven weeks.

New manager is Fran Escriba who was last season at Elche CF where he managed to keep the newly promoted team in the Spanish top division although they were later relegated due to financial problems.

Notable former managers at the club are German Bernd Schuster and Danish Michael Laudrup who both spent time at FC Barcelona and Real Madrid during their playing careers.

The La Liga outfit will face Fleetwood for the very first time, with the game kicking off at 7.45pm.

Ticket prices (in all areas) for the game are as follows
