Town fell to 3-1 defeat against the Latics this afternoon

Steven Pressley was encouraged by his side’s second half performance despite slipping to a 3-1 home defeat to Wigan Athletic this afternoon.

Andy Kellett gave the Latics the advantage in the first half with a shot from the edge of the box, before Antoni Sarcevic replied from the penalty spot on 68 minutes.

Substitute Jordy Hiwula stabbed home from close range on 83 minutes, while Michael Jacobs completed the scoreline late on.

Pressley said: “It was a game between two very competitive teams. Both teams worked exceptionally hard and Wigan had the greater share of the first half.

“The roles reversed in the second half though, and after getting ourselves back in the game I thought we were the team who were going to go on and win.

“I’ve got no complaints with the players’ application and effort today because it was terrific, but we just probably didn't take advantage of several opportunities.

“Wigan have got plenty of experience in their side and have some good players at this level, so I was impressed with how we equipped ourselves.

“We found it hard at times and didn’t get in behind them enough in the first half, and certainly lacked David Henen’s speed.

“We managed to address that in the second half and looked a more potent threat. We created opportunities and we had plenty of big moments.

“I’m disappointed we didn’t manage to capitalise on that, but there’s lots of lessons to be learned from this afternoon.”
