Striker has scored five goals since joining Town on loan

Wes Burns believes playing Walsall on Monday afternoon at the Banks’s Stadium gives Town an advantage with other sides in action on Saturday.

Blackpool host Wigan at Bloomfield Road while Doncaster travel to Crewe Alexandra 48 hours before the Cod Army’s fixture in the Midlands.

Monday’s game against the Saddlers will be shown live on Sky Sports and will kick off at 12.15pm as Town look to pick up crucial points in front of the cameras.

Ahead of the game, Burns said: “It’s going to be a nervous time for everyone down at the bottom of the league because we’re all obviously fighting to stay in this division.

“We’re going to Walsall on Monday full of confidence though because we’ll know what we have to do with other teams playing before us on the Saturday.

“They need to get three points to continue their quest for second place, so it’s going to be an interesting game because we need to win as well.

“They’ve got threats with the likes of Romaine Sawyers who was shortlisted for one of the players of the season, so we need to limit his impact on the game.

“I know Tom Bradshaw is a goalscorer too so we have to isolate those sort of players. I’ve played with him in the Welsh Under 21 set-up so I kind of know what he’s about.

“This group has had positivity ever since I came in. All the lads have a positive mentality and we’ll take that forward again in to the last two games.”

And reflecting on his time with the Cod Army, Burns admitted it has been a successful loan spell for him in front of goal and paid tribute to the coaching staff and players.

“It’s been a successful loan spell for me. When I joined I didn’t think I’d score as many goals as I have, so lots of credit must go to the Club’s coaching staff and the players.

“The gaffer’s a fiery character but I need someone like that. He’s a great manager to work for and all the players in the changing room like playing for him.”
