The Cod Army have added six new players to their squad recently
Steven Pressley believes Town have recruited impressively so far this summer after a busy week or so of transfers for the Club.Horley Town striker Ashley Nadesan, who had scored 99 goals in two seasons for the Sussex side, was the first to pen a deal at Highbury.
His arrival was then followed by defenders Ashley Eastham and Cian Bolger, who joined from Rochdale and Southend United respectively.
And then yesterday, the Cod Army announced a further three signings with the additions of Aaron Holloway, Chris Neal and Alex Cairns.
Pressley said: “Ashley is a really good capture for the Club. There was real interest from other parties and he’s a player who has true potential.
“The one thing that I must stress though is that he’s come from the lower tiers of English football so it’s a considerable step-up for him.
“We can’t expect too much from him too soon. He’s got to adapt both physically and mentally to League One football, and that’s not an easy task.
“We all look at the Jamie Vardy situation but these type of stories are very few and far between. We must be really patient with him and let him develop.”
The Scotsman feels Eastham and Bolger’s arrivals at Highbury will make for some fantastic competition in his backline.
“In my opinion both Ashley and Cian are still very young for central defenders. Both have League One experience and have been involved in promotion winning teams.
“They bring a real leadership to the Club which is very important and was something I wanted to improve on. They’ll bring real competition for places.
“From September 1st to January 1st there is no option to bring loan players in, so it’s vital we have a strong group of players to cope with that.”
Following Chris Maxwell’s departure to Preston North End, Town filled the void left by the Welshman by signing both Neal and Cairns.
“We were obviously very disappointed to lose the services of Chris, but we were very proud and pleased to see him progress.
“That meant we wanted to bring a young goalkeeper in with some great potential, and we believe that to be the case in Alex.
“We also wanted to bring in an experienced goalkeeper that has really good leadership. Chris will be an asset to us on and off the field.
“They are two goalkeepers who we feel will improve the group and bring us real competition, so we’re really pleased with them because they bring us different qualities.”
Welsh striker Aaron Holloway was bought for an undisclosed fee from Wycombe Wanderers, and Pressley is excited by his potential.
“Aaron has been a player on our radar for some time and Gretar has worked very hard to bring him in. I don’t think there’s a lot of players like Aaron out there in the Football League.
“He’s physical and mobile and performed very well for Oldham last season when he went there on loan. He is a player with big potential but we have to help him with that.”
