David Ball and Jimmy Ryan netted for Town

Steven Pressley was pleased with the way his players trusted each other’s game as they beat Morecambe in the JPT Northern Area semi-final this evening.

David Ball opened the scoring midway through the second half with a clever flick from Jimmy Ryan’s low cross.

And Ryan confirmed the victory on 75 minutes with a strike from inside the area after the lively Bobby Grant had slid him in.

Town will now face Barnsley in the Northern Area final over two legs next month, with a trip to Wembley up for grabs for the winners.

Pressley said: “I said to the group at half time that it was very similar conditions to the league game we had against Millwall a couple of weeks ago.

“We were totally dominant in the first half but the conditions actually suited us better in the second half because it enabled us to slide balls down the side.

“In these games when you don’t get your early breakthrough you can allow your belief in the way you play to deteriorate.

“We didn’t do that and just trusted each other in the way we play. In the end we got our breakthrough and I was really pleased with the group.

“Bally gave us the type of response as a manager that you look for, and for the second goal Jimmy’s press was fantastic.

“David’s a boy I like a great deal and he’s a really infectious character. He’s got a terrific appetite for the game.

“He’s a really, really important member of our squad and his performances of late have been good, but the one thing I’ve asked from him is a greater goal return.

“It’s been 10 days since our last game so it was important that we got back to winning ways quickly. That’s three wins in four now.”
