The Cod Army can go five points clear of Pool with a victory
Fleetwood Town manager Steven Pressley has said there is no hiding from the magnitude of Saturday’s derby against Blackpool at Highbury.The Cod Army know they can take a big step towards survival with a win against their local rivals, who sit two places behind them in 21st.
Millwall ended Town’s five game unbeaten league run on Tuesday night, as Steve Morison’s second half goal proved the difference.
Victory over Neil McDonald’s men this weekend would put Pressley’s side five points ahead of the Tangerines with only two games remaining.
Pressley said: “We need our supporters to get right behind the team on Saturday. We want to create an environment and an atmosphere that can intimidate the opposition.
“The supporters have remained very much behind the team this year and we need one more push which I’d ask them to give us.
“I personally can’t wait to witness the great atmosphere that will be inside Highbury. It’s a game where we want to take a big step towards survival.
“There’s no hiding the magnitude of the game as it’s a massive one for both sides. It’ll have a significant influence on who remains in the league come the last game of the season.
“We have to go out there and apply our game plan and win the game though, it’s as simple as that. There’ll be no hiding place for anyone out on the pitch.
“It’s a game where both teams must win for the same reasons, so it’s a very significant game and one I’m looking forward to.
“Neil McDonald has done a good job at Blackpool because people must remember that he inherited virtually no players at the start of the season.
“He’s had to build a group from scratch which is never easy and then during that period you have to then mould them and shape them into a team.
“He’s managed to keep a good spirit about them and has kept them in the race to remain in the division which is difficult considering the circumstances.”
