Development squad travel to Southport this evening
Barry Nicholson takes his development side to Southport this evening for a Lancashire cup fixture as they look to continue their good start to the campaign.The youngsters have been impressive so far this season, and have picked up a number of wins as they try and break into Graham Alexander’s first team.
Their latest game ended in an entertaining 3-3 draw away to Burnley in the Final Third Development League, and will be hoping for cup progress tonight.
Ahead of the game, Nicholson said: “The game against Southport is in the Lancashire Cup so it’s another good one for us.
“We don’t get many competitive fixtures so it’ll be a good test for the lads. It’s brilliant for them to be involved in these cups.
“The friendlies are sometimes a little bit less competitive although we do try and make them as competitive as we possibly can.
“Obviously with a cup tie there’s an edge to it and these boys need to start getting used to playing in them, so it’s good for us.
“After that our next game in the Final Third Development League is against Morecambe at home next Wednesday at Poolfoot.”
