Pressley: We have to be more clinical

The Cod Army drew with Salop this afternoon

Steven Pressley felt his side weren’t clinical enough as they drew with Shrewsbury Town at the Greenhous Meadow this afternoon.

The Cod Army fell behind early on when Jordan Clark’s shot deflected off Liam McAlinden in a scrappy goalmouth scramble.

But substitute Ash Hunter levelled late on with his first touch, as he slotted past Mark Halstead in the Salop goal.

Pressley said: “I sound like I’m saying the same thing every time, but we’ve had four one on ones today and weren’t clinical enough.

“We didn’t pass the ball with enough aggression in the first half, but the conditions didn’t make that possible at times.

“We were far more positive in the second half though, and again it was a game which we should have picked three points up from.

“We asked for a response at half time and they gave us that. As I said after Crewe last week though, we have to win at these places.

“The first step is that you don’t lose these games, that’s crucial. The players know the standards we expect and the standards they’ve set as players.

“We allowed their players to get through three or four tentative challenges, and we can’t give teams goals like that.

“We wanted to use the wind in the first half but we didn’t make any use of that. We have to make sure we stop our poor starts.”
