Antoni Sarcevic went the closest in the second half

Steven Pressley felt this afternoon’s point away to Port Vale was a reasonable one for his side as they played out a stalemate in Staffordshire.

Town had a number of chances to claim all three points, and went close through Antoni Sarcevic who hit the bar and Bobby Grant’s close range effort.

The result moved the Cod Army out of the Sky Bet League One relegation places, and they next face Scunthorpe at United in seven days times.

Pressley said: “It was a resilient performance and we worked extremely hard on a very large pitch. Our organisation and determination was very good.

“In the first half we didn’t pass the ball well enough or counter attack with enough speed. In the second half, especially the first 20 minutes, we did it with great effect.

“Shola held the ball up well and we broke from him with a couple of great counter attacks and I felt we should have scored and I believed that would have won us the game.

“Port Vale have not lost in ten home matches and you collect a point, it is a reasonable one. We have kept another clean sheet, our second on the trot, and it shows a real determination.

“There is no doubt we need to find that all important goal at the other end of the field.

“We have climbed out of the relegation zone today and that has given us a little boost. We have had so many draws over the recent period, it has been incredible.

“We are out of the relegation zone with games in hand and that is a plus for us.”
