Midfielder made his breakthrough for Town last campaign

Fleetwood Town midfielder Nick Haughton is pleased to be back in the swing of things as the Cod Army kicked-off their pre-season schedule on Wednesday.

Graham Alexander’s side trained at Poolfoot Farm in Thornton, for the first time, as preparations began for their second term in the third-tier of English football.

Speaking to the Club website on day one of pre-season, Haughton said: “It has been a good summer, I’ve enjoyed it but it’s good to get back to work now, so I need to knuckle down.

“I’ve being going to the gym every other day and doing a bit with my personal trainer, but we’re back into it now.

“We all want to play football, all the hard work has got to be done, but we’re glad to get the balls out on the first day.”

As part of their preparations for the upcoming League One season, Fleetwood will head out to Germany later this month to play Borussia Dortmund B and Alemannia Aachen.

He continued: “It will be tough to go there. I’ve never done anything like that myself before, so it is going to be tough but it has to be done at the end of the day.”

The 20-year-old hopes to continue the form that he showed in his breakthrough season last year, where he scooped the young player of the year award.

“I want to push myself so I’m a week in week out starter, that’s what I want to achieve. For the team we had a very good season last year, and we’ve got some new faces now so I think we’ll do well.

“Personally I want double figures in goals, but it is a team game and I want us to do well every week.”
