Jim Betmead has been named an MBE

Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce that Club President Jim Betmead has been awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for services to the local community.

Fleetwood born Jim founded the current Fleetwood Town Club in 1997 and was Chairman for six years until 2003 when he stepped down. He became President in 2005.

Jim told the official Club website that it was an honour the whole community will share and it caps off a remarkable 2014 for Fleetwood Town.

“It is an amazing honour. It is great for me obviously but it is also great for my family and the football club. It is a very proud moment.

“I received a letter about six weeks ago informing me that I was going to be honoured with an MBE. It was a difficult thing to keep quiet for that length of time. The news had to be kept in strictest confidence until New Years’ Eve.

“It’s been an incredible year for the Club. Winning at Wembley in the way we did was an amazing occasion.

“The Club’s transformation has been fantastic, and although I planted the seed right at the very beginning, our success has been down to Andy Pilley, he is an amazing man.

“He has not only taken Fleetwood Town Football Club on this remarkable journey, but he’s also done wonders for the community.

“We lost a big fishing industry and the Town was in the doldrums, and Andy has just lifted the whole place.

“It has been a team effort and a lot of people have worked really hard over the years to get the Club where we are today. So I would like to take this chance to thank all of those people as well.”

Everyone at Fleetwood Town would like to congratulate Jim on his award
