Town are crowned Johnstone's Paint Pot Challenge winners
The Cod Army beat off competition from a host of other Sky Bet League One and League Two clubs to follow the 2012/13 winners Oxford United in claiming the title.The Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge is a unique test of accuracy run in conjunction with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Players attempt to chip the ball from the angle of the penalty area into a giant inflatable paint pot situated on the six-yard line.
Ten points is awarded for any player who successfully chips the ball into the paint pot, while one point is accumulated if the paint pot is hit.
Fleetwood, who were promoted to League One for the first time in their history in May, won £1,000 worth of Johnstone’s Paint product to use on a club project and have elected to create a Fleetwood mural on a wall outside the main entrance to celebrate the club’s impressive success story.
“It was fantastic season for everyone involved with the club and we are delighted to have had more success by winning the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Challenge,” said Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander.
“We had a good run in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to reach the Area Final and, during that, we thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Paint Pot Challenge.
“It’s a fun initiative- the players loved testing themselves and to come out on top is pleasing.
“The prize of Johnstone’s Paint product will be very well received and we can’t wait to put it to good effect with a mural to celebrate all the success Fleetwood has enjoyed in recent years.”
Matty Blair proved the Fleetwood hero in the Johnstone’s Paint Port Challenge as he produced the perfect shot to earn 10 points. Steven Schumacher, Ryan Cresswell, David Ball, Gareth Evans, Jon Parkin and Liam Hogan all picked up one point each.
That ensured Fleetwood pipped Rotherham United to glory by one point with Newport County back in third on 14 points.
