Midfielder made his first Highbury appearance on Tuesday

Midfielder Jimmy Ryan is looking forward to the test La Liga outfit Getafe will pose the Town squad when they visit Highbury on Friday evening.

The Spaniards travel to the Fylde Coast to continue their pre-season preparations, having already played against Port Vale and MK Dons whilst in England.

And new recruit Ryan is keen to pit his wits against the Azulones in what will be the Cod Army’s final friendly before the League One campaign begins next weekend.

He said: “Getafe are a La Liga side for a reason and have very good players, so it’s going to be interesting to see what they’re like.

“We won’t come up against players like that this season, so it’s a good task for us and something different to what we’re used to.

“Burnley on Tuesday night was a very tough task. They’ve just come out of the Premier League but for a lot of the game we did well, especially on the ball.

“We created a lot of chances and can take a lot of positives out of the game, and hopefully we can get another good performance on Friday.

“I was very pleased to get my first game under my belt at Highbury. It’s a lovely stadium and a lovely pitch so I’m just looking forward to playing there more often.”

Asked about how he is settling into life as Town player, the former Chesterfield man responded positively.

“I’m really enjoying myself so far. I look forward to coming to work every day as there’s a good set of lads here.

“I obviously knew a lot about the Club for a while and have had friends who have played here, and they’ve always said good things.

“We haven’t won any games during pre-season but the games have been tough. The fans probably don’t realise the amount of training we’ve done.

“We probably haven’t gone into the games as fresh as the gaffer would have liked us to be as we’ve had a number of training sessions.”
