Town picked up three points in Kent last season

Graham Alexander wants his players to rally around as they make the long trip to Kent for a clash with Gillingham on Tuesday evening.

Town suffered defeat at the hands of Port Vale on Saturday afternoon, with goals from Colin Daniel and Sam Foley cancelling out a Bobby Grant opener.

The manager believes his side can channel the disappointment of the weekend’s defeat into the game against Justin Edinburgh’s men.

Ahead of the trip, Alexander said: “We have to take the pain from Saturday’s game and channel it in the right way. We have to just go again.

“There’s no looking at what we might have to do, we just need to get ourselves prepared for a tough game on Tuesday.

“I want everyone to rally around. If I’m going to pick young players then they’re going to have to take responsibility as well.

“I’m not going to expect three or four of the experienced lads to just have to lift us. If the young lads want to be treated like men then I’ll treat them as men.

“We’ll be expecting everybody to desperate to make up for Saturday’s defeat on Tuesday.

“If any of the injured lads are fit then they’ll come straight back in for the game but we have to see if they’re fit or not.

“They’re knocking on the door of full fitness but we just have to wait and see if they’re ready. Hopefully we can get them back.

“We’re at the harsh end of football now and must not give games away. I thought Saturday’s game wasn’t given away though as it was taken from us.

“We need to put in a 95 minute performance at Gillingham and hopefully we’ll get a fair ground to play on this time around.”
