Manager on 1-0 victory on Good Friday

Graham Alexander hailed a massive three points as his Fleetwood Town team defeated Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium.

Gareth Evans scored the game’s only goal after 18 minutes which moved Town up to tenth in League One with six games remaining.

The Cod Army now entertain Yeovil Town at Highbury on Monday afternoon, and will look to continue their good form on home soil.

He said: “We had to compete really well against a very good team. We took the lead early on and controlled the first half.

“We knew there would be a reaction after the break and we managed that well for large parts.

“They put us under pressure from corners and set-pieces, but defended really well and picked up a big three points.

“We passed the ball well and stretched them when we needed to, and the goal was a great reward for our good player.

“We did the right things at the right times. We spoke at half time that we’d been in these situations before and we did immensely.

“You always have to defend from the front and it’s never about one or two players. It’s about all fourteen men giving it everything they've got.

“We showed great discipline by not giving cheap free kicks away, and that breaks the momentum of the opposing team.

“We could have scored a couple more on the break too, and David Ball had a great strike saved well by the keeper.

“It was a really pleasing three points as it’s a tough place to come to.”
