Michael O'Neill's men were beaten narrowly by Wales

Conor McLaughlin and his Northern Ireland side were knocked out of Euro 2016 on Saturday evening as they lost 1-0 to Wales in the last 16.

Gareth Bale’s sensational low cross was turned behind by the unfortunate Gareth McAuley who was under pressure from Hal Robson Kanu.

Town’s right back started his country’s opening game against Poland, but was unable to prevent defeat as they slipped to a 1-0 reverse.

Michael O’Neill’s troops then won their second game 2-0 against Ukraine before losing the third 1-0 to Germany, however qualified as the best third placed team.

In a tight affair against the Welsh, Northern Ireland were arguably the better side for large parts of the game however failed to find a way back after McAuley’s error.
