Town have opportunity to extend winning run

Steven Pressley wants his Fleetwood Town side to continue their good run when they travel to Bloomfield Road to face Blackpool on Saturday afternoon.

In what will be the first ever league meeting between the two sides, the Cod Army head into the game off the back of two impressive victories.

Town put five past Swindon last weekend before beating Millwall at Highbury on Tuesday evening in a game they dominated.

And the Scotsman sees Saturday’s game as a real opportunity to continue the run against a Tangerines side who sit 23rd in the table.

Pressley said: “The players and staff are certainly looking forward to Saturday’s game. We know the importance of the game to the supporters.

“There’s bragging rights at stake and I want the fans to be able to go into work on Monday morning with smiles on their faces.

“We’re going to prepare properly as we always do, and we go into the game with momentum and confidence. I hope we give a good account of ourselves.

“We want to keep this run going because confidence is key for us. When you win a derby game it breeds so much confidence within your team.

“We’re playing against a side who are very organised and very hard working, and their manager is an excellent coach with good experience.

“I’ve watched their last three games and they’ve been very unfortunate not to get something from them as they’ve had the better chances.

“Make no mistake about it this is a really tough game for us. We cannot underestimate them and it’s going to take another top level performance to beat them.

“The biggest challenge for a manager is allowing the confidence to grow while nullifying any complacency, and we have to be hungry to continue to win games.

“Ultimately the most important thing is winning games, and the manner of our wins has been very pleasing. We’ve played really well in both games.

“We have a responsibility to make the supporters very happy come Saturday night, and I was really encouraged about them on Tuesday night.

“They turned out in their numbers on a wet and windy night with Champions League football on the TV, and it was a terrific turnout and I thank them.”
