Graham Alexander previews Fleetwood's third away game in a row

Manager Graham Alexander expects another difficult away match for Fleetwood Town as this time they travel to Bury on Tuesday night.

The Cod Army have been on the road for their last two League games, picking up a point against Newport County before a 1-0 win at Torquay United on Saturday.

Alexander’s men make a shorter trip to The JD Stadium next, to tackle the Shakers, and the Town boss believes David Flitcroft’s side, who are 20th in League Two, will be no easier than any other in the division.

“It will be a tough game but we’re looking forward to it,” said Alexander.

“Bury are in a good run of form at the moment. They play good football, they try to get the ball down and play and they’ll be competitive like all teams are in this division.

“There are no easy games as we saw at Torquay. We go there in good spirits after the three points on Saturday but we know we have to work just as hard to make sure we get anything from the game.”

“It was a difficult week for the players and supporters having to travel to Newport on the Tuesday night and then Torquay on the Saturday.

“It’s a big commitment from everybody and we really appreciate the support. We have to go to Bury and show the commitment the supporters do.”

Alexander cited Bury’s goalless draw with promotion-chasing Rochdale on Friday as a sign of the how tough the league is, with the Shakers denying Dale a chance to move top of the table.

“It just shows the strength of the division,” said Alexander. “Accrington also beat Chesterfield – it happens.

“All the clubs in the division are fighting for something, it’s either survival or promotion.

“The games are competitive week in, week out, and we haven’t had a game this season which hasn’t been competitive.”

The Town boss has also been particularly pleased with a run of three consecutive clean sheets, typified by some of the defending against the Gulls on Saturday.

“The players have seen the importance of being hard to beat and every challenge all over the pitch is important,” he said.

“Clean sheets give you a base to go on and win games, which was the case at Torquay on Saturday.

“Some of the defending on Saturday was fantastic – right from the front. It gave us the base to go on and win the game with a fantastic goal, and the goal itself was of great quality.”
