Akil Wright and Harvey Hodd were Town's goalscorers

The Club’s development squad beat Premier League opposition for the second time in a week this afternoon as they took the scalp of Liverpool in Merseyside.

Barry Nicholson’s side had defeated Burnley on Tuesday afternoon, and followed that impressive result up with another today.

Akil Wright opened the scoring with fine long range strike in the first half, before Samed Yesil responded with 10 minutes to go.

Harvey Hodd was to be the match winner however, as he put Town back in front just a minute later with a well taken finish.

After the game, Nicholson said: “It’s obviously nice to beat a big club like Liverpool. We were more worried about the performance more than anything.

“Although we probably didn’t play as well as we did against Burnley on Tuesday, I thought they did unbelievably well to dig in as they had a lot of possession.

“We had to stay strong and work really hard off the ball. They stuck to everything we asked them to do.

“I’m delighted for the lads more than anything. To go to Liverpool’s academy and beat their Under 21’s is a great result for us.

“It’s nice to put our little Club on the map, and getting these sort of results will mean people will have to sit up and take notice.

“We’ve already had calls from teams who want to play us next year, so obviously word is getting about that we are a decent side.

“I just like the way the lads go about these games and treat them properly. There’s never really a friendly when we play as the boys go 100% at it.”
