Service will resume for Sheffield United match

Fleetwood Town’s bid to attract new fans from Over Wyre has worked at the first attempt.

The Club trialled a free bus service with a free match ticket for Over Wyre residents who attended the Walsall game last weekend and it was heralded a tremendous success by Chairman Andy Pilley.

A double decker bus that was sponsored by Blackpool Transport was completely full from Knott End, Preesall, Stalmine and Hambleton on its way to Highbury Stadium. The vast majority of those who took advantage of the offer were first time fans and now the Club is planning to repeat the transport offer for forthcoming fixtures.

These areas have a population of over 12,000, so there is potential to grow our fan base from these rural locations.

Chairman Andy Pilley was delighted with the response and hopes many more people will come along to watch Fleetwood Town first team matches.

“To attract a number of first time fans from Over Wyre is a fantastic return and show’s there is an appetite for Fleetwood Town in these areas,” admitted Pilley.

“We know it wasn’t the best of games but we hope they enjoyed their experience none the less. We are keen to keep momentum going for our next home game against Sheffield United and beyond if the demand is there.

“I will be writing to all these first time fans personally in the coming days to thank them for their support and encourage them to come again. It has also given us further ideas to develop the scheme in other areas in the future.”

Martin Booker, Head of Commercial also thanked those involved. He said: “Thanks to Blackpool Transport for sponsoring the trial and also thanks to the landlords of these establishments Over Wyre.

“They helped us generate the interest for the trial and getting their regular customers interested in the scheme.”

First time fans can register with their local pubs, these being Knott End WMC, Black Bull Preesall, The Seven Stars in Stalmine and The Shovels Inn Hambleton to get a free place on the bus.

This will be repeated for the Sheffield United game on Saturday 13th December with the same pick up times being advertised in the pubs from this week.

Places will be offered on a first come first served basis.  Fans under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Members also welcome to use the bus service and they can bring along some new fans too.
