Goalkeeper can't believe Town lost at Bloomfield Road

Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Chris Maxwell looked on the bright side following Fleetwood’s narrow defeat to Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon.

Despite dominating the game throughout, the Cod Army were beaten 1-0 in the first ever league meeting with the Tangerines despite Maxwell not having to deal with one shot on target.

After the Fylde Coast derby came to a conclusion, Maxwell offered up his thoughts on the contest, in an interview to the Club’s official website.

Maxwell said: “I can’t believe we lost the game, I thought we did well for a total of 70 minutes of the game, when we did look like ourselves, we absolutely battered them.

“We’ve got a long time now until our next game, we’ll have to make sure that we have to work hard and put this behind us, by using this as a lesson and make sure we never feel like this again.

“We had some good results this week, we’re a good team with a lot of confidence and we didn’t put in a performance for the full 90 minutes and it has cost us.

“It was difficult conditions today, it was a difficult pitch with the wind and the rain, I think we deserved at least a draw from the game.

“We have to put this result behind us and learn from our mistakes, we weren’t ourselves and we’ve got to make sure that we don’t take anything for granted or let the occasion get to us.

“People say we are a young team and that some of us are still learning the game, but we have to make sure that we are right for every game, with the same mentality and attitude, no matter what the game is and where we are playing.

To conclude his interview, the Welshman went onto praise the support of the travelling Cod Army, who had made the short journey in their large numbers to back Steven Pressley’s side.

“You see it every away game, you see the fantastic support and it’s good to see so many fans travelling such a short distance to here – they made a lot of noise, even when they went behind, you could always hear them from down the other end where I was, it was fantastic support and I hope we come to see the same thing against Morecambe – and it wasn’t a one time thing.
