Welshman has become a key player in the Cod Army's team

Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Chris Maxwell has revealed his delight upon the way that the Cod Army have handled themselves in their inaugural season in the third tier of English football.

Maxwell, who has been an ever present in the Town line-up this season, believes that the Club should consider the League One campaign a success, with just two fixtures left of the season.

Graham Alexander’s side currently reside in eighth position in the league standings, and the Welshman believes that Fleetwood should be proud of their position heading into Saturday’s final home game of the season against Colchester United.

Speaking to the Club website, Maxwell stated: “It’s gone really quickly, I think it has been a successful season, and I think it has been a shock to everyone that how well we have done.

“It hasn’t been a shock to us as we knew we could compete well in this league, and I think we were a bit unlucky not to get in the Play-Offs in the end.

“If you look at individual games then we should have picked up more points, but if you take a step back and look at how far we’ve come then I don’t think it is an underachievement at all.

On a personal note, the shot stopper has been pleased with his own individual performances this season after becoming a key member in Town’s side over the past year.

“I’ve been really happy with my performances. When I came back from Cambridge, the first thing I said is that all I want to do is play games.

“I just take each games as it comes, and I just want to go out and enjoy it.  From a personal point of view, you want to be in the spotlight and making saves.”
