Manager over the moon after fourth win in a row

Graham Alexander was unable to hide his delight as his side continued their winning streak with a 4-2 win against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium this afternoon.

Having seen off the challenges of Accrington Stanley, Dagenham & Redbridge and Hartlepool United so far in 2014, the Cod Army travelled to Staffordshire in high spirits.

The game was delayed by an hour as heavy showers descended on the Potteries, but referee Darren Drysdale went ahead with the game after the surface passed a 3.15pm pitch inspection.

Goals from David Ball, Nathan Pond, Jon Parkin and Junior Brown sealed all three points, but Town were made to battle for their win as the Brewers twice pegged them back.

Speaking after the game to the club’s official website, the former Scottish international said: “The most pleasing thing was the result and three points against a very good team away from home.

“We’re all absolutely ecstatic about that and the lads’ commitment to themselves and the team was brilliant. It’s great when you can see your players putting everything into the game to get the result and that is what they did today”.

Gary Rowett’s men certainly had the better of the opening exchanges, but Town weathered the storm and went in front through David Ball: “We had to try and put Burton on the back foot and we didn’t do that until the quarter hour mark. When we did that David Bell scored a fantastic finish and I thought we played some really good stuff after that”.

“The equaliser was really fortune to come off Mark Roberts but we did well to respond and Nathan Pond scored his 50th goal for the club which is a fantastic achievement”.

“Burton scored another unfortunate goal but we kept coming back and Jon Parkin come up with a great finish and Junior Brown rounded matters off at the end”.

“What was pleasing today though was how we kept coming back at them and scored some goals of the highest quality. It was a tough game for both teams and we’re just happy to come out on top. We fully deserved the win”.

Town are back in action in less than 48 hours, and remember seats are still available to cheer Graham and the boys on at Glanford Park with ticket office open from 9am on 01253 775080.

Cod Army coaches depart at 3pm with prices just £15 or £7.50 for season and half season ticket holders.
