Manager's thoughts after Morecambe clash

Manager Graham Alexander told the Club website he was unhappy to see his side fail to reach the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The boss admitted his side started well, with Gareth Evans scoring after 12 minutes, but conceded they should have not allowed the Shrimps to get back into the tie the way they did.

“I thought we started really well and then got our goal then seemed to take our foot off the pedal for one reason or another and Morecambe took advantage of that and scored two goals before half time.

“It’s a little lesson for us tonight, we’ll take that on board. We spoke about it after the game that has to be a lesson tonight, we play our way and we stick to it.

“We probably had two or three different formations last season, that’s the first time we have changed it today, was it to do with the goal, I don’t think so. It’s one of those if it’s down to my formation I’ve got no problem in taking responsibility.

“Everyone can see that they were poor goals to concede. That’s something we have to learn from but I think it was culmination of how we began to play.

“We brought it upon ourselves and fair play to Morecambe they took advantage of that and they got their goals through good attacking play from their side but from our side, very disappointed.”
