Head Coach reacts after impressive win over Shrewsbury
Uwe Rosler has challenged his side to take things ‘to the next level’ after a 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.
Two goals from David Ball and one from Conor McLaughlin was enough for a third home win in a week, after triumphs over Southport and Chesterfield.
“We were very strong defensively and our wing-backs, before Conor and Amari’i – especially Conor – have been outstanding,” said Rosler.
“We targeted the three games coming off a very good performance against Port Vale but a very disappointing ending. We knew we had three home games coming up and I think it was very important that we won the first one against Southport.
“Shrewsbury is a team who are on the up and they made the first 15-20 minutes very difficult for us and you wouldn’t assume then that we would win 3-0. After that, we took over. In the second half I felt that we were worthy winners.”
The German was full of praise for striker David Ball, after he took his tally to 43 goals for the club in all competitions.
“He’s back,” stated Rosler.
“He suffered a little bit from the effort he put into the first 10/12 games of the season, we saw that and adjusted that but now he is refreshed and is ready to go again.
“Bobby Grant was outstanding today, absolutely outstanding and from the front – like I said in the last game – Bally is back.”
Rosler was also full of praise for both George Glendon and Kyle Dempsey, who once again performed very well in central midfield.
“I also didn’t want to make changes because the boys have played so well – especially the two in midfield.
“Both of the young lads grew into the game and I think that is development and development for young players who have come from academy’s to then grow into the game and end the game strongly.
“I said to the players that those three games was our homework and we did our homework. Now, we sit nicely where we are (in the league) and have put a big gap between ourselves and Chesterfield and Shrewsbury and now we have to take it to the next level and the next level is to start getting points away from home.”
