Town chief speaks to media ahead of trip to Latics

Head coach Uwe Rosler says his side are prepared for a ‘50/50’ match with Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Rosler’s Town team travel to Boundary Park on Saturday on the back of a crucial three points on Wednesday against Oxford United.

Meanwhile, Oldham lost to promotion chasing Southend last week, with Rosler expecting a tough game regardless.

“They have an advantage as they didn’t play midweek so they will probably be more energetic in the early stages,” said Rosler.

“We know what they stand for – last year they did the great escape and they’re planning to do the same again this year.

“We are prepared but it will be tough.

“I spoke to Chris Wilder [Sheffield United manager] a couple of weeks ago and he said they found it very tough.

“It will be a 50/50 game and we should not use the pitch as an excuse – we have the players to deal with it.”

Town’s head coach reserved praise for his players after they showed great character to end a mini-run of three games without a win on Wednesday with a 3-1 triumph over Oxford.

“At this time of the year results are vital,” added Rosler.

“We bounced back from the Swindon game – the Oxford game was a different game, we played a different way which was very effective. I was pleased with the reaction and pleased that the players stuck to the game plan and executed it very well.

“Against Swindon we were close on a number of occasions, but we couldn’t score. This time against Oxford we scored early and this got the monkey off our back.

“It was the first time this season we scored three goals away from home and we want to build on that.”

“I think every team has asked different questions – Oldham will ask different questions that what Oxford did and that’s different to Swindon.

“We need to find the right players for the right games but also have that consistency in our team selection.”
