Rutland based referee to take charge of Second Round tie

The match official for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup encounter with Shrewsbury Town will be the experienced referee Trevor Kettle.

The Rutland-based referee did not prove to be a good omen for Town last season, overseeing defeats to Doncaster and Chesterfield.

Just three yellow cards were shown in those games.

So far this campaign, Kettle has taken charge of 15 games across Sky Bet League One and Two, as well as the Checkatrade Trophy.

He has shown 65 yellow cards during that time and only two reds, both of which were given out in the same fixture as Walsall took on Bolton back in September.

Walsall’s Joe Edwards was dismissed after 16 minutes in that game for elbowing Wanderers’ Chris Taylor. Bolton substitute Keshi Anderson later received two yellow cards to ensure both sides finished with 10-men.

Last weekend he oversaw Gillingham’s 3-0 victory over Rochdale, showing three yellows in total.

Mr Kettle will be assisted by Matthew Bristow and Steven Rushton, with Nicholas Bernard operating as the Fourth official.
