Read our official big match preview of Saturday's game with Southend United

Uwe Rosler’s side will be looking to bounce back after suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of high flying Bolton Wanderers last time out. Phil Brown’s Southend side sit one point and four places below Town going into Saturday’s match at Roots Hall.

Last time out

A late Josh Vela goal ended Fleetwood’s unbeaten start to Sky Bet League One campaign after winning one and drawing two of their opening three matches. David Ball had given the Cod Army a 1-0 lead at Macron Stadium, before goals from Gary Madine and Vela maintained the Trotters’ 100% start to the season.

Summer signing Simon Cox scored a late penalty to snatch a point for Southend in their home clash with Bristol Rovers. The Shrimpers were looking to back up an impressive away win at Sheffield United but were left chasing the game after Peter Hartley headed Rovers ahead in the first half.

Ones to watch

Simon Cox joined Southend in the summer after a short loan spell at Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City last season. The 29 year-old will be hoping to add to his impressive tally of 93 career goals when he comes up against Town on Saturday. The experienced striker is a Republic of Ireland international with 30 caps to his name, scoring four goals. The former Reading and Nottingham Forest man scored his first goal for Phil Brown’s side last week against Bristol Rovers.

David Mooney is another Irishman who will be looking to put Uwe Rosler’s side to the sword when the sides meet at Roots Hall. Mooney joined Southend in 2015 from Leyton Orient where he spent four seasons scoring over 50 goals in the process. A savvy finisher at this level, Mooney finished second in the goal scoring charts in his debut season under Phil Brown.
