Skipper reacts after away defeat at Latics

Fleetwood Town captain Nathan Pond says his side have the perfect chance to ‘bounce back’ when they travel to Peterborough United on Good Friday.

Town fell to a 2-0 defeat at Oldham Athletic on Saturday, the clubs first away defeat since November 12th when Uwe Rosler’s side lost 2-1 at Port Vale.

Pond – who has made over 450 appearances for the Cod Army – is keen to put Saturday’s result behind him.

“All the lads are disappointed,” said Pond.

“It was a tough game. The pitch didn’t help but it’s the same for both sides and they adapted to it better than us. We can bounce back on Friday [at Peterborough].

“We will analyse the game and come into training and we’ll be up for the game on Friday.”

Town’s skipper was unfortunate to turn home Ryan McLaughlin’s dangerous first half cross to give the hosts the lead at Boundary Park.

“I was happy to be back in the team but it was a disappointing performance from myself – with the own goal and I feel like I could have done better with the second goal.

“We knew about Holloway he was at Fleetwood earlier in the season. He’s a big lad but they played to the conditions better than we did.

“It was a good ball in and I’ve tried to get across it but I sliced it into my own goal.

“We started well in the second half and changed our shape but the second goal hurt. It deflected off me and went in and it was a bit of a slice of luck from them but we have to deal with the ball better.

“We have four more big games coming up.”
