"It's clearly a club with big plans for the future."

Martyn Woolford revealed the ambition of Fleetwood Town prompted him to make the switch from Sheffield United.

The 30-year-old put pen-to-paper on a one-year contract on Friday afternoon after being given permission to talk to the Cod Army over a move earlier this week.

Woolford brings a host of experience to the club having made more than 300 appearances for the likes of Scunthorpe, Millwall and Sheffield United.

And after completing the move, Woolford revealed a trip to the club’s new £9m training ground earlier this week made his decision easy.

“I’m hugely excited by the project at Fleetwood Town, it’s clearly a club who have big plans for the future," he said.

“I spoke to the Uwe Rosler and the Technical Director this week and to be honest I was hugely surprised and impressed by everything they had to say.

“The training ground there was hugely impressive and the whole feel of the club made it one I wanted to be part of of.

“I can’t wait to get going now.”

Woolford played 35 times for Sheffield United last season, but was yet to feature in their squad this term.

And is hoping to prove a point here with the Cod Army.

He said: "I'm joining the club on the back of a disappointing spell and I can't wait to get back on the field and start to prove people wrong.

"The talks I had with Uwe Rosler made me hugely excited, it's flattering when a manager like that wants you.

“It’s a fresh start for me now and a chance to play games and really make a mark with Fleetwood."
