Midfielder reacts after Highbury stalemate

Markus Schwabl says Fleetwood have taken another ‘important point’ towards their end of season target following Saturday’s 0-0 draw with AFC Wimbledon.

It was a hard fought contest at Highbury but neither side could find a winner on an afternoon when chances were few and far between.

“Before the game today the gaffer told us the side who would score the first goal would maybe be the winner,” said Schwabl.

“Today was the day if you score you win but if you concede you lose, it was close. But we can be happy with a point.

“The conditions were not perfect but there are no excuses, for us it’s an important point and we keep going.”

Town travel to Bury on Saturday and Schwabl insists The Cod Army will be looking for a return to winning ways.

“We have to look at the next game, we have a very strong team here and we want to try and pick up three points against Bury next,” he said.

“We started the game today wanting a win today but we have to admit we were against a strong side and maybe one point we can be happy with, it’s important we are ready again this weekend.”

The central midfielder arrived at Fleetwood in January from German side VfR Aalen and says he is enjoying the challenge of adapting to the English game.

“In Germany the teams try to play from the back but here they have pack the middle and lots of heading and second balls and pressing, that’s the biggest difference. I’m enjoying it very much.

“It was very busy in the middle of the pitch today, it’s took some time for me to adapt to the English way of playing but I’m very happy to be here.”
