Spaniard joins legal department on three-month internship
Qualified sports lawyer Luis de Oleza has recently joined Fleetwood Town on a law internship to assist the Club in the legal department.
The 26-year-old flew into Manchester Airport in July to begin a three-month internship based at Poolfoot Farm.
Luis hopes to build on his sports law experience within England whilst gaining experience working within an English professional football club.
The Spaniard, born and raised in Mallorca, has a Masters Degree in International Sports Law from the world-renowned Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia (“ISDE”) in Madrid.
Not only is Luis a graduate of the esteemed university, he also won the award for sports law achievement shortly before leaving for Fleetwood, for which he was selected from a pool of 26 candidates from across the globe.
During his time in England, Luis will be supervised at the club and in all legal matters by an English sports lawyer and visiting professor at ISDE, Dev Kumar Parmar.
Luis said: "The opportunity came from one of the professors who taught me during my Masters degree and he told me about Fleetwood Town and how the club was working hard to build up a better structure.
"I spoke to chief executive Steve Curwood and these conversations convinced me to take this opportunity.
"I hope to learn how the English football structure works and continue my own development."
Not only is Luis a qualified lawyer, but he is also a qualifed referee.
His passion for sports and his knowledge of the regulations will be of great added value to Fleetwood Town at this exciting stage in the club’s journey.
Fleetwood Town's chief executive, Steve Curwood, said: "This is a very valuable internship as far as we are concerned as we are a relatively young football club and continually improving our knowledge and procedures.
"To have someone of the quality of Luis around the business has enabled us to speed up our legal work and excercise more due diligence on all contractual matters.
"I know Luis is already enjoying his time with ourselves and gaining some excellent hands on experience both on the actual legal work involved and just as importantly, the day to day business operations of a football club."
