When the Cod Army host Sheffield United on Saturday, it will be the sixth time they’ve met the Blades in all competitions...

Back in December 2014, in Fleetwood’s first Sky Bet League One season, the two sides met for the first time. Antoni Sarcevic’s 53rd minute strike cancelled out Bob Harris’ 8th minute goal in a 1-1 draw.

In the return leg at Bramall Lane, Fleetwood recorded a famous victory, as Josh Morris and Nick Haughton put the Cod Army 2-0 up. Matt Done pulled one back for the hosts just before the break but Town held on in the second half for a big three points.

The Cod Army weren’t as fortunate on their next visit to South Yorkshire though, as Che Adams put the Blades 1-0 up within 30 seconds of kick off. Adams added a second with half an hour to go before Billy Sharp got his name on the score sheet late on to make the final score 3-0.

The two sides also met in the now re-named EFL Trophy last season. With the scores 0-0 after 90 minutes, Town won the game on penalties to put them through to the next round.

The last meeting between Fleetwood and Sheffield United was an exciting 2-2 draw in March this year. It took just two minutes for Ash Hunter to equalise after Marcus Nilsson’s own goal gave United the lead at Highbury. In the second half, Nilsson scored at the end to put Town ahead, before a Che Adams penalty in stoppage time denied the hosts a point. Nick Haughton was also sent off late on.
