Final pre-season friendly for FTFC before Holland

Next up for Fleetwood Town is a visit to Moor Lane on Saturday afternoon, for their second pre-season friendly against Salford City, kick-off 3pm.

The Cod Army will travel to the National League North side looking to erase Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat at home to Premier League side Liverpool, from their memory.

Strikes from Marko Grujic, Ben Woodburn, Lucas, and Roberto Firmino’s brace earned Jurgen Klopp’s Reds’ victory at Highbury, in what was a solid workout for Pressley’s Fleetwood players, as preparations step-up for the forthcoming EFL League One campaign.

Standing in Town’s way on Saturday afternoon are a Salford outfit who gained promotion via the Play-Offs last term. The Ammies, who are of course part owned by former Manchester United icons, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Nicky Butt, have enjoyed a whirlwind rise through English football, which will see them compete in the sixth-tier of the game in 2016/17.

In what was a memorable season for Salford, the club also reached the FA Cup second-round proper, defeating Whitby Town, Curzon Ashton, Bradford Park Avenue and Southport, before knocking out League Two side Notts County 2-0 in front of the television cameras at Moor Lane back in November.

There run in the competition was eventually brought to a conclusion by another fourth-tier side, in the form of Hartlepool United, who they took to a replay at Victoria Park, however Pools got the better of Salford that night, and scored two unanswered goals in extra-time.

Managed by Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley, the pair were appointed as joint-managers in January 2015, and guided Salford to promotion to the Northern Premier League as Champions, just a few months later.

They continued the success from their first season in charge, and come the start of August, Salford will be planning for trips to Stockport County, Chorley, and our neighbours, AFC Fylde.

Fleetwood Town and Salford City have met the four times, when both sides were in the North West Counties First Division. FTFC have come out on top twice, while Salford have won one fixture between the two teams.

Town won the last game 2-1 on Tuesday 22nd March 2005, in an encounter which took place at Highbury Stadium.

For fans who want to attend on Saturday, please remember that it is pay on the day at Moor Lane, with admission prices as followed: £4.00 for adults, £2.00 for concessions (Over 60, students with ID card, Under 16s)
