Europa League and EFL Cup finalists visit Highbury

After a 66 day break, Highbury Stadium will welcome back Fleetwood Town for a blockbuster pre-season friendly against Liverpool on Wednesday 13th July, 7pm kick-off.

The Merseyside outfit are expected to field a strong line-up with the likes of Firmino, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren, Lucas and Loris Karius all in action last Friday against Tranmere Rovers.

Wednesday’s game however is Fleetwood’s first pre-season friendly. Manager Steven Pressley is likely to give all of his players a run out as they get their first minutes under their belts.

It will be the first team the two sides have met at Highbury Stadium. In 2003, the two sides played a pre-season friendly at Bloomfield Road, with the Reds winning 6-1.  The only player to remain from both teams that day is of course, Fleetwood Town captain, Nathan Pond.

Tickets are still on general sale. Matchday prices will apply for this game, with members of the Fleetwood Town membership scheme receiving their normal discount.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Highbury Ticket Office on 01253 775080 (ext 1) or by visiting the Highbury Online Store.

Steven Pressley: “They are one of greatest club’s in English football history and I am sure it will be a great experience for many of our players. Liverpool are a club that I have great admiration for and they have a manager in place that I have studied in great depth and I believe our footballing philosophies are very similar.

“My intention prior to the game is to give each player 45 minutes. We have a very detailed plan in place that all the players are ready come the 6th August.”

To read more from the manager, please pick up a special edition Liverpool programme on Wednesday evening, priced at just £1.

Kevin Friend will officiate the game between Pressley and Klopp’s men.

The Bristol born official is a regular Premier League official. Last season, he refereed 31 games in England, including Liverpool’s 1-0 win against Sunderland in December 2015. Friend has never refereed a competitive Fleetwood Town match.

Winger Sadio Mane sealed a £30 million move to Anfield from Southampton at the end of last month.

The Senegalese star has proven to be a star performer for the Saints in recent years, and will arrive at Liverpool with high expectations.

The winger, who is known for his pace and trickery, played 45 minutes against Tranmere and is likely to get a further run out at Highbury Stadium.

The 24-year-old started out at Metz before a switch to Red Bull Salzburg. His performances for the French and Austrian sides persuaded Southampton to pay nearly £12 million for his services in 2014.

Jim's Sports Bar will be open from 5pm on Wednesday and both sets of supporters are welcome. Next door, Red and Whites will also be in service with a wide range of delicious food on sale.

If you fancy starting your day earlier, you can always call into Poolfoot Farm and sample Crossbar.

The Club's official matchday programme will be on sale before the game for just £1. The 24 page edition works out at less than 5p per page, a bargain!
