Defender speaks after gaining national recognition

Conor McLaughlin says his personal individual success this season is a 'reward for how well the team have done'.

McLaughlin has been named in the EFL team of the season, a select group of 11 players from all 72 EFL clubs.

After being named in the team, the Northern Ireland international was keen to praise his Town teammates.

“I didn’t even expect to get in the League One team of the season so it’s a nice bonus," said McLaughlin.

“It’s a reward for how well the team have done. When you play in a good team it makes it easier for individuals.

"I’ve said before though that I’d rather take a successful end to the season over any individual awards.

“I think what’s been different is the way my seasons have been in previous years. I’ve been looking after myself better, the new manager and coaching staff have been as well how good the medical staff are with us."

Town's right-back is also firmly focused on finishing the season strongly, starting at Peterborough United on Good Friday.

“We have four massive games left. We want to stay in the playoff places and get to our points total as soon as possible.”
