Defender has returned to Cod Army after EURO 2016

Steven Pressley says Conor McLaughlin has returned fresh and ready to go following his involvement with Northern Ireland at the European Championships.

The Cod Army full-back was re-united with his club team-mates for the pre-season tour of Holland, having represented his country in their first tournament for 30 years.

McLaughlin was granted an extended break following his exploits at the Championships, and Pressley is pleased to have him back around the group for the six day tour.

The boss said: “He tells me he’s refreshed and ready to go after that little bit of a break, we are glad to have him back around the group.

“It was important Conor had that little bit of a break, it’s important mentally and physically.

“He needed a few weeks to wind down and switch off and we’ve allowed him to do that.

“Knowing Conor he will have looked after himself during his break and he looks to have returned in good shape.

Pressley revealed his pride at seeing the 24-year-old Belfast native become the first-ever Fleetwood Town player to feature at an international tournament.

"It was fantastic to see Conor playing in the Euros for both himself and the football club, we were all very proud of him," he said.

“I was obviously in touch with him while he was over there and although he didn’t get the game time we hoped he played in the first game and had a great experience of being around the tournament.

“He joined back up with us at the airport on Sunday and it was great to see him.
