First team coach on media duties ahead of Rovers fixture

Barry Nicholson praised this Saturday’s opponents Bristol Rovers as a ‘very good all round team’.

Darrell Clarke brings his side to Highbury on the back of a 5-0 home win against Northampton, whilst Town faced Rovers’ neighbours Bristol City in the Emirates FA Cup last Saturday.

And first team coach Nicholson – who was on media duties in place of Uwe Rosler – says that Fleetwood can expect a tough game against The Gasmen.

“It’s another one to look forward to,” said Nicholson.

“Obviously we find ourselves on a good run at the minute, and just as a group of players and a group of staff who want to keep the run going.

“We know it’s going to be a difficult game, it was a really difficult game down there in November against them and we know that they’re all about, they’re a team with high energy and we’ve got to make sure we match that to get a good result.

“They scored five last week and the striker Harrison got four goals, and the other striker Taylor has got a lot of goals as well for them. But they are not just the strikers, they are a really good team.

“The whole feeling around the place at the minute’s really good, really positive and we’ve just got to try keep that going.”

In his pre-match press conference, Nicholson also spoke about the impact that new signing George Glendon has had on the squad, and how pleased is he that he has signed a permanent contract with the club.

“He was obviously at Man City and had a good grounding, and you get very good technically on the ball and I think he’s had to learn the off the ball stuff a little bit more and I think he’s taken to that really well.

“He’s a little bit more aggressive now off the ball and he’s been a big part for us in this run of 12 games unbeaten.

"It’s great that he’s signed permanently for us, as I say he’s been a big part in this run, hopefully it’s just the start.

“He’s got a lot of things to learn, he’s a young footballer and we’re just trying to get as much into him as we possibly can.”

Nicholson has also targeted continuing Town’s good home form, which has seen Rosler’s side lose just one match in the league all season at Highbury.

“It’s been a bit of a fortress for us and we just want to keep the run going.

“We know it’s going to be really difficult, they’re a really good side too, they score a lot of goals and we’ve got to be ready for them.

“The players that are going out onto the pitch know exactly what they’re going to do, they look solid defensively, we’ve had a few clean sheets which is always a good sign and we’ve got the players who are capable of scoring goals so it’s a good mix and a good blend at the minute.”
