Town offer support to Kick It Out and Her Game Too

Fleetwood Town shows their support for both Kick It Out and Her Game Too this International Women’s Day to inspire inclusivity in the sport we love.

The theme this year for Kick It Out, who have partnered with Her Game Too, is ‘Inspire Inclusivity’ and therefore a great opportunity for football to collectively share their support to ‘Kick Sexism out of Football’ and encourage reporting incidents of discrimination.

Last season, Kick It Out saw a 400% rise in sexism reports, which is unacceptable in both our stadiums and social media, and we unfortunately see these numbers continue to rise in reports every season.

Joanne Barker, Town’s Her Game Too representative, said on this year’s campaign: “Our mission is to create positive change in sport by promoting inclusivity and diversity, championing participation and challenging sexism and misogyny.

“We want to support female fans who receive sexist abuse and ensure that football is a safe space for all but we also want to encourage women and girls to get involved in football whether that be playing, coaching, refereeing, journalism, and simply spectatorship for personal enjoyment.

“Unfortunately, sexism in football is an ongoing issue and at Her Game Too we still receive weekly reports. The stats speak for themselves. A survey highlighted that 92.3% of female supporters had seen sexist abuse online towards women in football, 62.8% had experienced such abuse themselves online and 58% had experienced it in a pub or in a football ground.

“Having worked closely with the Directors, I am informed that the Her Game Too Campaign is grateful for the support and efforts of Fleetwood Town Football Club in promoting inclusivity for all and in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all women and girls who share the love of the beautiful game.”
