Defender, and captain on the day, Ben Heneghan spoke to the media following Fleetwood Town’s 3-0 defeat against Stevenage at Highbury after returning from the international break.

Ben, who certainly had a long day on Saturday, became a dad for the first time early in the morning after the birth of his newborn son but carried on as the professional he is to captain the Cods at Highbury that afternoon.

Here's what Ben had to say in his post-match interview:

On today’s result….

“The obvious thing is frustration, of course it is. (It’s) “very disappointing. I don’t think you look at it as a 3-0 loss really, (it was) just obviously mistakes and not dealing with certain situations.

“Obviously they’ve been clinical today with their chances and they’re a solid unit. Myself being a defender, I’m all for that, I respect that. That’s what we’ve got to bring into our games more, ruthlessness and the dirty side of the game if you like - little things like that.

“We’ve had a good few chances which we’ve not put away, that’s football unfortunately, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but we’ll all stick together and we’ll go into the next game. It’s majorly disappointing but like I said there’s plenty more games to go so we’ll go again."

On the birth of his first child this morning….

"It’s unbelievable, I can’t even explain the feeling I had when I was first introduced to my little boy. I’m just over the moon with that.

“Going back to the football side of things I’m disappointed with today, I’ll just go back to my family now and see them and be back in for training.

“It’s been a long two days! Very little sleep, but I think that’s just prepping isn’t it for the next few years?"
